River Plate opened their Club World Cup campaign with a 3-1 win over Urawa Red Diamonds on Tuesday, with goals from Facundo Colidio, Sebastian Driussi and Maxi Meza enough to see off a spirited challenge from the Japanese side.

Sebastian Driussi scored for River Plate but was injured in the process, Marcos Acuña recorded two assists and the Argentine club beat the Urawa Red Diamonds 3-1 in the Club World Cup at Lumen Field in Seattle.

The summer of soccer is taking a new look this year with the FIFA Club World Cup, which brings the first edition of the expanded competition to the United States for a 32 team tournament featuring teams from around the world competing for a share of the $1 billion prize purse.
