Jets stars Garrett Wilson and Sauce Gardner reported to training camp Tuesday with much bigger bank accounts and the knowledge that they are part of the long-term plan for the organization. Both players said they are not letting complacency creep in now that they’ve been paid.

But as the Jets reported to training camp this week, Gardner admitted he didn’t agree to the contract right away. Not because he was having second thoughts. Not because he needed to sleep on it after being offered $30.1 million per year, pushing him past the Texans’ Derek Stingley for the highest annual value ever at his position.

The New York Jets locked in contract extensions for cornerback Sauce Gardner and wide receiver Garrett Wilson last week, but Gardner didn't sign his new deal immediately. Instead, Gardner delayed inking the offer -- not as a negotiation tactic, but in the spirit of being a good teammate.
