A new Starship Troopers movie is happening at Sony, with District 9 filmmaker Neill Blomkamp writing and directing.

Neill Blomkamp is doing his part. The “District 9” and “Chappie” filmmaker is attached to write and direct a new film adaptation of “Starship Troopers,” the 1959 sci-fi novel by Robert A. Heinlein that was last memorably brought to theaters in 1997 by director Paul Verhoeven.

Sony is behind the new adaptation, which is not a remake of Paul Verhoeven’s 1997 film, but rather will go back to the 1959 novel as source material.
