A new global report says that people in Finland are the happiest in the world. The northern European country is leading the world in happiness for the eighth year in a row.

Finland and several other Nordic countries have been – once again – assessed as leading the world in happiness, according to an annual report released Thursday that analyzed the views of respondents’ quality of life in more than 140 countries and territories over the last three years.

The United States has dropped to its lowest-ever ranking on the World Happiness Report, bumping down a spot from last year and landing on the list’s 24th spot. The 2025 report was published by the Wellbeing Research Centre at the University of Oxford on Wednesday in partnership with analytics firm Gallup and the UN Sustainable Development Solutions Network.
