A 65-year-old man drowned after being caught in a rip current at Daytona Beach Shores despite rescue efforts by Volusia County Beach Safety.

A 65-year-old Clermont man, swimming with his teen son in the ocean Saturday, Oct. 18, drowned after they became trapped in a rip current in an unguarded area in Daytona Beach Shores, officials said.
