According to the National Weather Service (NWS), a major winter storm warning is in effect from Georgia through Virginia on Saturday, Jan. 31. Heavy snow and gusty winds are forecast from the southern Appalachians in Georgia through coastal regions of the Carolinas and southeastern Virginia.
10:25 a.m. - Traffic Team 9’s Mark Taylor says more than 30 crashes have been reported in the Charlotte area. Some drivers are also seeing impassable roads, including a closure on Wendover Road due to slick conditions on a hill.

On the heels of Winter Storm Fern, a strong storm will form off the East Coast this weekend that will bring snow, wind and coastal flooding. Blizzard conditions are even possible in a few areas.
