A dozen major wildfires are burning across California, and officials warn the threat will only grow in August and September, typically the most dangerous months for wildfires.

The Gifford Fire, a wildfire burning in Central California that has destroyed over 83,000 acres in six days, continues to rage and is now the largest blaze in the state this year, according to Cal Fire.

More than 870 remote homes and other structures at the northern edge of Los Padres National Forest are threatened by the Gifford Fire, which has been burning out of control for days.
