CHARLOTTE — Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police launched a homicide investigation in east Charlotte on Saturday evening. MEDIC responded to a call about one person with a gunshot wound around 8:50 p.m. in the 3300 block of Magnolia Hill Drive. Paramedics pronounced the person deceased on the scene.

Charlotte FC was dealt another loss on the road after a late-match goal by Philadelphia Union Saturday evening. The team was away, facing off against the division leader at Subaru Park following an off week.

The Charlotte Checkers lost 4-3 in double overtime at home to the Abbotsford Canucks on Friday. An apparent Checkers goal was waved off by officials.

The Union scored two goals in stoppage time during the win, including the winner from Anderson in the 98th minute.
