G7 summit in Kananaskis, Canada, Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney negotiated a reset in relations, aiming to ease nearly two years of diplomatic strain triggered by the assassination of Sikh separatist Hardeep Singh Nijjar in British Columbia in June 2023.

The 2018 gathering, also held in Canada, was memorable for the spectacular fallout between Mr. Trump and Justin Trudeau, who was then prime minister of Canada.
