President Donald Trump and Ukrainian counterpart, Volodymyr Zelensky, were supposed to meet on the sidelines of the Group of Seven leaders’ summit in Canada, one day after Trump complained that Russia should never have been removed from the organization.

Six of the Group of Seven leaders have discussed Russia’s war in Ukraine and international cooperation on key, non-military issues, wrapping up a summit that was forced to try and demonstrate how the wealthy nations’ club still can shape world events despite the early departure of U.

World leaders had hoped to secure U.S. backing for tougher sanctions on Russia.
