The state of Illinois is considering cutting business ties with El Salvador in response to how that country is working with the Trump administration to hold deported migrants in prison.

Illinois Gov. JB Pritzker, a Democrat, announced Wednesday that he’ll direct several state agencies to review their ties to El Salvador in the wake of what his office called “aiding the Trump administration’s unlawful and unconstitutional actions.

Illinois Lt. Gov. Juliana Stratton declared she is running for Senate following longtime Sen. Dick Durbin‘s (D-IL) retirement announcement. Stratton has been lieutenant governor with Gov. JB Pritzker (D-IL) since the pair were elected in 2018.
