Excitement is building on the West Coast as soccer superstar Lionel Messi and his Inter Miami squad is set to face the San Jose Earthquakes on Wednesday night.

Forward Luis Suarez, who missed the 4-1 loss at Minnesota United on Saturday due to a personal trip, had not rejoined the team as of Monday and will also be out Wednesday, according to coach Javier Mascherano, who did a remote interview with the media from San Jose, where the team is preparing for the game.

Lionel Messi was powerless to prevent Inter Miami from slipping to its biggest defeat in MLS play since his arrival in North America, falling 4-1 at Minnesota United on Saturday. Previously, there had only been one two-goal defeat with Messi — a 1-3 home loss to Atlanta United in May last year.
