Google users with Pixel 8a and onwards can now monitor their phone’s battery capacity via the Settings app and then selecting Battery Information. Here, users can see how many times the battery has already been fully charged, when it was manufactured, and its date of first use.

Google says that those with a Pixel 3 through Pixel 8 Pro should be able to hold 80% of the cells' capacity for up to 800 charging cycles.

The January update's build number is AP4A.250105.002 for most devices, with slight variations for specific regions like Telstra and EMEA, as reported by 9to5Google. It includes the Android security patch level dated Jan. 7, 2025.

As a token of gratitude, Google will provide free battery replacement for "Impacted Device" Pixel 4a units. However, this option is only available in selected countries, including the US, the UK, Canada, Germany, Singapore and India. This offer is also only applicable unless stocks last.

The old Google Pixel 4a is already receiving an update designed to optimize its battery, but that could kill some cells.
