The nonpartisan Cook Political Report changed its rating of the 2026 Texas Senate race from “solid Republican” to “likely Republican” this week as the contentious GOP primary between incumbent Sen. John Cornyn and state Attorney General Ken Paxton rages on.

The party is weighing its options for battling the GOP-led effort to redraw congressional boundaries ahead of the 2026 midterms.

In additional to Fletcher’s seat, some of the other districts that could be targeted by Republicans include two in south Texas: Congressman Henry Cuellar in the 28th District and Congressman Vicente Gonzales in the 34th.
