Former England football captain David Beckham, Oscar-winning actor Gary Oldman and The Who front man Roger Daltrey are among the prominent figures awarded knighthoods in this year’s King’s Birthday Honours list.

A raft of key UK cultural figures were named in the King’s Birthday Honours List with the artist Antony Gormley appointed Companion of Honour, the highest award. The accolade for the Angel of the North sculptor comes after he was knighted in the 2014 New Year Honours for services to arts,

The former Manchester United and Real Madrid midfielder was awarded an OBE in 2003 and has long been tipped to receive a knighthood.
