Vice President JD Vance, who converted to Catholicism in 2019, says Catholic clergy who criticize the Trump administration's immigration policy are concerned about money. A statement released by the United States Conference of Catholic Bishops confirms that the church receives funds to help immigrants and refugees,

"When they receive over $100 million to help resettle illegal immigrants, are they worried about humanitarian concerns? Or are they actually worried about their bottom line?"

Vance implied that the nation’s bishops care less about Americans who are left vulnerable to bad actors who enter the country illegally than they do about immigrants themselves.
