Past Preserved on Instagram: "On November 22, 1955, the Soviet Union tested its first two-stage thermonuclear bomb, RDS-37, over the Semipalatinsk test site in Kazakhstan. The device was air-dropped from a Tupolev Tu-16 bomber and detonated at an altitude of about 1,550 meters. While its theoretical “nominal” yield was around 3 megatons, the actual blast was scaled down to about 1.6 megatons of TNT.
