This abundant fruit is known a Mahonia / Oregan Grape / Holly-leaved barberry (Mahonia aquifolium) and we use it for decorative and hedging purposes at present. It sits in the Berberidaceae family and is very closely related to the Berberis genus where many botanists disagree on whether to recognise a separate Mahonia.
